CRIME REPORT
- If officer is present, if not they said they might
be busy due to the rain today having a lot car accidents.
SUBSTATION ON LENOX ROAD
- You may have noticed the substation construction
at 2020 Lenox road has started
- Working with the community for a year and half planning
screening options and amenities
- Planting lots of trees to screen but trees won’t
be mature for a long time
- Trying to get sidewalks on the west side of Lenox
road from Woodland Ave to the existing sidewalks in
morningside, there’s a good chance we will get
those. No commitment in writing, we do have a loose
commitment in email which is sort of in writing although
it was not their “official” commitment
letter.
SIDEWALKS ON EAST SIDE OF LENOX ROAD
- Good news from the good folks at Lindridge Martin
Manor, the city of Atlanta has released “Quality
of Life Improvement” Bond Money to install sidewalks
on the East Side of Lenox Road this summer from Hampton
Way to Cheshire Bridge. Why not from Morningside to
Cheshire Bridge? Not enough money in the bond that
will probably come a t a later date. So what the substation
committee is trying to do is not only get sidewalks
on the west side of the street but have GA Power fill
in the missing gap of sidewalks from Hampton way to
Morningside. I will keep you posted I am extremely
hopeful at this point
NPU-F REQUESTING A TRAFFIC STUDY OF LAVISTA/CHESHIRE
INTERSECTION
- As we all know the intersection of Lindbergh/Lavista/and
Cheshire Bridge is a nightmare so NPU-F has requested
a traffic study of that intersection to see if turning
lanes can be extended or added and lights retimed
to make things flow smoother. My guess is that it’s
a no brainer the way things back up something will
have to be done. I’ll keep you posted as I find
out more.
LENOX ROAD REZONING REQUESTS GO BEFORE THE
CITY IN JUNE
- Properties looking to rezone from single family
to multifamily on the west side of Lenox Road at Woodland
Ave go before the city in June looking for approval.
Looking to put in high-priced town homes, not high
density.
6 HOMES FROM HAMPTON WAY TO OGILVIE HAVE BEEN
APPROACHED BY DEVELOPERS TO AQUIRE THEIR LOTS FOR TOWNHOMES.
- That is all I know from lindridge martin manor right
now, is that they’ve been approached. Don’t
know how many they want to put in. We’ll keep
an eye on that development.
4 HOMES ON LAVISTA LOOKING TO SELL TO DEVELOPERS
TO BUILD 9 HIGH PRICED HOMES
- From what I’ve heard, I’ve heard gated
community of 9 homes and in a cul-de-sac. Lavista
Park is opposing the plan. I know they don’t
like the idea of a gated community shutting themselves
off from Lavista Park. They have a lot of that on
Sheffield Drive and a lot of those communities are
their own little communities instead of being part
of the larger picture in LaVista Park
HOPEFUL OUTLOOK FOR THE TRAFFIC WOES ON SHEPHERDS
LANE
- I contacted Jeff Rader regarding the heavy traffic
volume on Shepherds Lane. I knew he was aware of it;
he talked about it during his campaign for county
board commissioner. He represents our district in
Dekalb county, district 2. I knew he had concerns
for Shepherds Lane and he has been so responsive to
doing something about it. We talked about the upcoming
intersection improvements and how it would be a good
time to save Shepherds Lane if you will. I proposed
that there be no thru traffic from 8pm to 7am. He
told me that included in the plans for the b’cliff/Clifton
intersection is a no left turn onto Shepherds from
Clifton. So I asked if he would help us push for cut
thru restrictions during certain hours. For example
no thru traffic from 8pm to 7am and their response
was not only overwhelmingly supportive of that, they
seem to believe that once all the intersection improvements
are made they could close Shepherds to all thru traffic
saying the newly improved arterial roads can handle
the traffic flow with ease. So I think that is fantastic,
we’re going to continue this discussion with
Jeff; we’re going to hold him to these improvements.
RAIL PROJECT IN THE WORKS FOR OUR CORRIDOR,
THE CLIFTON CORRIDOR
- There was an open house held by GA DOT in march
at the clairmont presbytarian on N Druid Hills Roadlaying
out results of a 5 year study of our corridor and
how to work in a rail system that connects the Clifton
corridor area including hospitals, university, cdc,
and surrounding neighborhoods into Lindbergh Station.
There’s basically two ideas both hit very close
to home. One idea is to widen LaVista Road to make
room for a rail system going right down the middle
of LaVista. That goes from Lindbergh to sage hill
and on to the cdc and emory area. The other way is
a cheaper alternative, use the exsisting CSX tracks
which are in our neighborhood right behind Arnold
Ave. They would lease use of the tracks from CSX and
CSX would adjust its freight times to make way for
commuter trains. This is all in the planning phase
I recommend you attend these open houses to see pictures
and simulations and talk to people. There will be
more open houses, I believe 5 more before the study
is complete and they submit a formal proposal. Talking
to one of the representatives there, he says Emory
is the biggest proponent of this. Having rail on their
campus with the CDC, and students, and employees,
and faculty, and hospitals is a big selling point.
GA DOT says based on their surveys with people 60%
of the traffic in our corridor comes from east metro
area, Lawrenceville, tucker, Athens. If they can put
20% of those commuters on the rails it relieves our
corridor of a ton of congestion. And this is all part
of the larger Athens to Atlanta rail plan which they’ve
been talking about for years.
ENTRANCE SIGN WINNER IS SIGN #6
- It received a total of 20 votes
- Sign #5 came in second with 7 votes
- One of our residents owns a sign company and he
has donated his services to create the sign. He ask
that we pay for materials. We’re hoping to unveil
this at the next meeting in July.
BLOCK PARTY
- Arnold Ave block party, June 9th 5pm. It’s
not an official neighborhood party, what started as
just some neighbors getting together just grew a little
bit. Come on down and enjoy some food and some music.
We’ll have a couple grills out there, bring
your own food and beverage, throw it on our grills.
We’ll be in the cul-de-sac on Arnold Ave. Bring
your kids, strollers, wagons meet your neighbors,
have a drink, have some food. We’ll just be
out there a couple of hours, they’ll be kids
playin and people talking and a little music goin’.
