Membership Update – 60 members and counting

Website Update - Woodlandhill’s Website is www.woodlandhillsatlanta.org, our official website. It’s still under construction but will be fully functional in the near future. Go to the site and click around and check out the layout.

Development Update

• Results of Atlantic Realty Partners Rezoning Request – Dekalb County Board of Commissioners denied the request for 32 townhomes to be built on 3.28 acres on LaVista Road citing the proposed use is still too high density even though the number is down from 59 townhomes to 32 townhomes. Atlantic Realty Partners will probably resubmit their request at a lower density in the near future

• Lenox Road Substation Update – Construction starting Spring ’07. Woodland Hills, Lindridge Martin Manor and Morningside are asking Georgia Power to put in sidewalks on Lenox Road from the end of the sidewalks in Morningside to Cheshire Bridge road citing that if you are going to bring heavy duty industry and commercial use into our neighborhood and hurt our property values then GA Power should be forced to make the neighborhood better in a small way.

• Emory University Redevelopment (for more info) – Emory is planning to redevelop Clifton Road from the Wesley Woods Center to the corner of N. Decatur. They are leveling Emory university Hopsital and Children’s healthcare and building state of the art facility. There will be new student housing, single family homes, and townhomes along Clifton from the Wesley Woods center to the Emory Conference Center. Emory is also going to build housing on top of the businesses in the Emory Village. They are also building a park on Haygood Drive across the street from N. Druid Hills High School. Total cost of project 3 Billion Dollars, construction to start in 2010 and be completed in 2017.

• Publix at Cheshire Square is open

• According to the AJC - Wayne Mason and Kim King purchase and plan mixed use for Old Gold club location. Townhomes and retail space at street level.

• First 4 houses after the power lines on the North Side of LaVista heading East are consecutively for sale one after the other. A Developer is interested in buying all four and trying to change variances to put 4 new single family homes on each lot for a total of 16 new homes. County rules are currently 3 houses per acre.

We had more than one person from Section 4 and 8 volunteer to be Section VP’s, we will look at our neighborhood map and try and redraw districts so we have adequate and complete representation.

Now that the board is elected, just the board will meet once a month. General assembly meetings open to the neighborhood will be held quarterly, the next one being the last Thursday of October. Although we have an open door policy, anybody is always welcome every month.

We’ll form a constitution and by-laws and start tackling some possible projects. Examples of projects for our neighborhood could be sidewalks in certain areas, pedestrian crosswalks, new entrance signs, more street lights, additional stop signs, things of that nature.

Next meeting Thursday August 31st
